Golf's Superbowl - The Fed Ex Playoffs

The past three weeks are always typically known a weaker stretch of PGA Tour Tournaments. But the professional golf space has still been very entertaining.

With LIV golf players recently losing their law suit against the PGA Tour, it is very nice to see the "good guys" gearing up for a great final stretch to the season. We are approaching one of the best times to be a viewer… The FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Starting up tomorrow The Fedex St Jude is being held at TPC Southwind in Memphis. Leading the way in points right now is the man who’s been doing it all season long Scottie Scheffler. While Scottie is having an unbelievable season, some other players have been trending as of late. I am on the lookout for guys like Xander “limited field” Schauffele to continue his strong play, while X may have shaken that stigma regarding winning in limited fields with his back to back wins this year it feels as though his play lately may be primed in the limited fields he tends to excel in.

Another guy who is coming in red HOT, the big man Tony Finau coming off back to back wins himself, Tony like Xander seems to be hitting his stride as of late and can be a force with some new found confidence. With a history of not being able to close out tournaments Finau seems to have put that talk to rest. Tony has played well in playoff events in the past and I would not be surprised to see him cash that big check in a few weeks.

Presidents Cup Implications?

For many guys the next two weeks can be the difference in if they are selected for the 2022 Presidents Cup squad. The way it is working this year is the top 6 in FedEx Cup points qualify, the remaining 6 spots are captains picks. Right now, the top 6 are as follows:

1. Scottie Scheffler

2. Patrick Cantlay

3. Sam Burns

4. Xander Schauffele

5. Justin Thomas

6. Tony Finau

Looming not far behind is Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa and Cam Young to name a few (that I would love to see on the team). These guys seem to have a little bit more to play for in the next 2 weeks in order to guarantee a spot on the US team.
